Michael Joseph "Mike" Houska was born May 17, 1943, in Enid to Joe Austin and Ava Mae (Hubbard) Houska. He passed away Feb. 5, 2016, at his home in Marshall, at the age of 72 years.
Mike was raised in the Douglas area and graduated from Douglas High School. After graduation, he served his country in the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Army in the Scout Dog Platoon. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.
Not long after returning home, he married Mary Bostick in 1973.
He was a mechanic and machinist for many years for several different businesses, including Bostick, Inc., in Marshall, and Ditch Witch in Perry.
Mike loved being involved with every activity of his daughters and grandchildren. He video recorded his girls� basketball games and took them all hunting and fishing. Ever the supportive father, he would always drop whatever it was he was doing, to help his children. He was a loving, generous, husband, father, Papa, and friend and will be sorely missed.
A gear-head, Mike at one time raced a car he built on a dirt track in Enid. He could regularly be found in his garage tweaking one of the motorcycles he was working on. He was a long-time citizen of Marshall who won a trophy for Best Classic Truck in a Prairie City Days parade and delivered the Marshall mail for a while.
Survivors include his wife Mary, of the home; four daughters, Annette Hawthorne, and husband R.J., Canyon, Texas; Jamie Weathers, and husband Brent, Edmond; Jennifer Vandiver, and husband Cory, Covington; and Jill Harouff, and husband Dan, Tonkawa; one brother, Dale Houska, Lone Grove; and thirteen grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and two grandchildren, Claudia Ann Weathers and E.J. Harouff.
A private family memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oklahoma City, 1301 N.E. 14th Street, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73117-2018.
