Arthur Pryor Houser

August 1, 1925 ~ January 16, 2006

Arthur Pryor Houser, 80, of Blanchard, Oklahoma, died Monday, January 16, 2006, at home.

Memoria Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2006, at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church in Norman, Oklahoma.

Arrangements handled by Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.

Mr. Houser was born August 1, 1925, in Annville, Pennsylvania, the second of three children to Paul and Nellie Gray [Matthews] Houser.

He attended school in Oklahoma City and graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City, in 1944.

He then served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, as an aerographer's Mate Second Class on the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Copahee.

He married Carolyn Jean Huber at Our Lady Cathedral in Oklahoma City, on September 6, 1948.

After his service, Mr. Houser graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1950, with a B.S. degree in Horticulture. He then completed his Masters Degree in Education at Central State University in 1971.

He taught 5th and 6th grade science for many years at Chickasha Public Schools before retiring in 1991. Mr. Houser was well loved by his students, and enjoyed building and launching rockets with them.

He built his home in Chickasha where he and his family lived for 38 years. He moved to Blanchard in the Sring of 2003.

He enjoyed numerous hobbies including fishing for catfish and stripers at Lake Texoma, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, and philately-collecting U.S. Commemorative stamps. He also enjoyed working with his hands, completing crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader.

Mr. Houser also served as a volunteer in Chickasha, serving meals to the homebound there for many years. He was a member of the Elks and Eagles, the VFW and the American Legion in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

He was a member of St. Mark The Evengelist Catholic Church in Norman since 2003.

Mr. Houser was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Witthuhn.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, of the home; three daughters, Carol Chismar and husband, Edward, of Cedar Crest, NM, Lisa Campbell and husband, Brad, of Jenks, OK, and Paula Martin of Tuttle, OK; brother, Donald Houser and wife, Helen, of Naples, FL; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Campbell and wife, Alysha, Edward P. Chismar, Elizabeth Campbell, Audrey Chismar, Nathan Chismar, Janelle Martin and Shane Martin; numerous nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mobile Meals of Chickasha, 3214 Brookridge, Chickasha, OK 73018.
