Beatrice Angela (Trevino) Horton

May 31, 1926 ~ February 10, 2008

Beatrice Angela Horton entered this world on May 31, 1926 and passed away on February 10, 2008 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. Bea was born in Rockwall, TX, the 4th of 7 children to Joseph Trevino and Minnie Glover Trevino.

She spent her early years growing up in Honey Grove, TX. Bea attended St. Paul's Nursing School in Dallas, TX, where she received the degree of Registered Nurse.

Bea married George Arthur Manning, a petroleum geologist with Standard Oil, in 1948, after he returned from service in World War II as a Lt. Cmdr. in the U.S. Navy. They had four boys, Clark, Bruce, Hugh, and Scott and soon moved to Oklahoma City. She was widowed in 1959, when George suffered a heart attack at the early age of 42 at his office in Oklahoma City.

Despite her grief, Bea returned to nursing and worked hard to raise her boys. She moved to Tahlequah, OK in 1962 and went to work as a public health nurse, eventually becoming the Coordinating Nurse for the Cherokee County Health Department. Bea moved to Oklahoma City in 1974 to take a job with the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

She met W.G. 'Bus' Horton and they soon fell in love and were married in 1977. They lived a life of love and devotion to each other; traveling and enjoying their family for 1½ years when Bus was lost to a heart condition after a short illness. Through this marriage Bea gained another son, Ty Horton, who was the son of her beloved Bus.

Bea loved children (especially babies) and her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her grandchildren, (Paula Manning Doubet, Alyssa Manning, Brett Manning, Claire Manning, John Manning and George Manning) and her most precious treasure, her great-grandson, Benjamin Doubet. Bea was a second mother to many of her sons' friends and became a grandmother to their children.

In recent years, she lived at the Statesman Club Retirement Community, where she played bridge and had many friends whom she loved and adored. Bea was known for her generosity, her humor, her skill at preparing meals for large groups of people, her love of children, her grace as a ballroom dancer, and her strength during adversity.

She is survived by her three sons, Bruce Manning and his wife Jan of Utah; Hugh Manning and his wife Carol of Oklahoma City; Scott Manning of Oklahoma City; and by her stepson, William T. 'Ty' Horton: as well as by her grandchildren and great grandchild, and by many adoring and loving nieces and nephews whom she cherished.

She was preceded in death by her son, Clark Manning and her dearly loved sisters and brothers, Zola Trevino, Zelma Thompson, John Trevino, Mary Hogan, Paul Trevino and Patricia Pennington. All who knew her loved her and know that they have an angel watching over them now.

A memorial service will be held 2:30 PM, Sunday, February 17, 2008 at Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Midwest City, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
