A Strong, Full-Blood Pawnee Indian Woman began her journey through the stars on November 1, 2023. Upon her arrival she will be met by family and friends who have been patiently awaiting her. A trip to the Rainbow Bridge is also scheduled.
Janice Geneva Horse Chief was born on December 23, 1940 to Hugh Horse Chief Sr. and Sophie (Good Chief) Horse Chief in Pawnee, Oklahoma. She was a descendant of White Eagle and Good Chief. Her familial lines ran through the Horse Chiefs, Good Chiefs, Sun Eagles, Eagle Chiefs, and Lyons. Many other relations through family marriages. She considered all of her cousins as brothers and sisters. Those she considered as friends are numerous.
She thought her childhood was ideal, no money but with parents who were always there and playmates on every neighborhood block. She attended Pawnee Schools and Chilocco Indian School.
She worked at several jobs in her lifetime her favorites being a Nurse’s Aid at Southern Oaks Care Center, working along side her nieces and nephews, and as the phone operator at I.H.S., along with the two other Golden Gals- Josie and Jane.
She loved family, sunny days, music, laughing, puppies and kittens, animals in general.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hugh Horse Chief Sr. and Sophie Good Chief Butler, brothers; Daniel, Samuel, Nathaniel and Hugh Jr. sisters; Delina (H.C.) Manawa, Emalyne (Horse Chief) Collins, Jenny Lou (Horse Chief) Eagle Chief, Christine (Good Chief) Collins and Adeline Tonemah.
She is survived by a daughter Virginia Little Sun of Pawnee, Oklahoma, her cousin Vicki Ann (Lyons) Larney of Seminole, Oklahoma, who she thought of as her little sister. Many very special nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and buddy, chip, olive, Possom, Weezer and Lillie Grace-her beloved grand kittens. And many memories that will invoke many smiles and laughs as we go on. If you are still blessed to have your Mom with you, never hesitate to tell her you love her. Love you Mom!
