Thelma was born to John Henry and Dorothy Higdon Van Buren, May 17, 1930, on her family's farm in Pottowatomie County, Oklahoma, and passed from this life September 9,2017, in Enid.
She was raised on her family's farm and attended Lexington schools, graduating from Lexington High School in 1947. Following graduation she moved to Oklahoma City to be near her oldest sister and worked at St. Anthony's Hospital.
Thelma began her banking career at First National Bank and Trust Company in 1956, where she met a young bank executive who soon became her husband. She married Curtis L. Horrall on June 28,1958, in the First Christian Church of Oklahoma City. Later that year the couple moved to Enid, where they made their home. In 1974, Curt and Thelma assumed ownership of the Bank of Drummond where she managed the Drummond Insurance Agency along with other daily operations of the bank.
Her biggest joy in life was her family where she acted as supportive wife and patient and loving mother to three daughters. She lived to help others in her own quiet and unassuming way.
She was an active member of Central Christian Church, Junior Welfare League, 50 year member of P.E.O., Chapter FA, Enid Garden Club, Women's Oklahoma Golf Association, Oakwood Women's Golf Association and an avid Mah Jongg player. Thelma was a lively and competitive spirit. Rules applied!
She treasured her many friends.
She was an early supporter of the Gaslight Theater and the Enid Symphony, as well as the Enid YMCA.
Thelma is survived by Curtis, her beloved husband of 59 years, her daughters, Susan Peterson Massey and husband George of Oklahoma City, Mary Beth Horrall and husband, Greg Miller, of Portland, OR, and Patricia Ann Horrall of Silver Spring, MD. Grandsons include Dr. Brenton Massey of Kansas City, MO, and Robert Townsend Miller of Portland, OR. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Hatchell and husband, Bill, of Oklahoma City and her sister-in-law, B. Jeanne Horrall Luther of Enid, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, two of her three sisters, first husband Charles A. Peterson and their son, Michael.
