William Robert Hooten

Dec. 14, 1915 - Nov. 6, 2006

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, November 10th, at Shafter Memorial Park for William Robert Hooten, who passed away on November 6.

Born December 14, 1915, in Bentley, Oklahoma, he met his sweetheart Anne Lee and married her in 1937.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

He left Oklahoma in 1940, and came to Bakersfield, with his wife and daughters, Reatha and Wanda.

He worked in the cotton fields and did some ranching and farming.

In 1942 his son Royce Hooten was born.

He moved to the Salinas Valley in the late 1950s. There he hired on with the Monterey County Housing Authority. He retired from there in 1980. His home at the time was in Gonzales, CA.

William Robert, known to his friends and family, as Bob, returned to Bakersfield with his wife and once again made Bakersfield their home.

Anne Lee went to be with the Lord in 1999.

Bob enjoyed fishing and camping throughout his life. One of his favorite things to do was watch old western movies and being surrounded by his family made him very happy.

Bob was a very independent man to the very end. He left to be with Anne Lee and a daughter, Reatha, on November 6, 2006.

Survivors include daughter, Wanda Rodriguez of Buttonwillow, CA; and a son, Royce Hooten of Paso Robles, CA; 21 grandchildren and many great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., at Mish Funeral Home, in Oildale.
