Diamond Jewel Hood, age 67, longtime resident of Ponca City, OK, entered the pearly gates of Heaven on Tuesday, June 1, 2016. Diamond was born on February 6, 1949 to Wayne Thomas Houghton and Opal Iola Lingelbach-Houghton in Sterling, CO.
Growing up in Merino, CO Diamond was fortunate to be born into a large, loving family with four sisters and three brothers. Her eldest sister, Billie Joanne, always made sure her siblings had cake for their birthdays.
As a senior in college, Diamond met her first husband, Donald Eugene Mumby. She was always grateful for the 13 wonderful years with her first husband and father of her two children, her perfect precious jewels, Jennifer Dawn and Travis Todd.
Diamond was also grateful for her second husband, Kent Lee Hood, who helped raise her children. Diamond taught for the Ponca City Public Schools for 32 years, many of these as a second grade teacher at Garfield Elementary. Throughout her career, Diamond helped many students, "her kids", to believe in themselves and be everything they imagined and more. Diamond's legacy is every success of her "kids" (students), friends, family, children and grandchildren.
Diamond is survived by her second husband Kent Hood of Ponca City; daughter Jennifer Fields and son-in-law Steve of Ponca City; son Travis Mumby and daughter-in-law Kimberley of Ponca City; granddaughter Emilee Fields of Oklahoma City; grandson Ethan Fields of Ponca City; three sisters Billie Houghton of Salem, OR; Helen Peck of Chicago, IL; Nancy Ruff and husband Marty of Thornton, CO; three brothers Lucky Houghton of Denver, CO; Lynn Houghton and wife Carla of Penrose, Co; Roy Houghton of Chicago, IL; five nieces and one nephew; many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Diamond was preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister Dixie June and her first husband.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Ponca City.
