Mae Frances (Holder) Homan

Mae Frances (Holder) Homan
May 14, 1936 ~ October 25, 2022 (age 86)

Mae Frances Homan was born May 14, 1936 in Wintrop, Arkansas to Robert and Jewell (Stone) Holder, the 8th of 10 children. She passed away October 25, 2022 at the age of 86.

Mae’s daddy worked in the timber industry and her mama had her hands full raising the family and working their small farm.

Mae graduated from Gillham High School in 1954 and ran off with her sister Florence to see the world. They traveled all over the Midwest and Canada playing professional basketball with the Texas Cowgirls and even became World Champions. Their adventures even included an exhibition game against the Harlem Globetrotters in the early fifties. She also enjoyed Sunday morning crossword puzzles and the comics, especially Slylock Fox. She had a passion for flowers and gardening as well.

She was married on September 29th, 1957 and had four children which led to many grandchildren, great grandchildren and even two great-great grandchildren.

In death, Mae looked forward to going home to be reunited with her parents and her siblings. Mozelle, Mable, Mamie, Florence, and Roy that she grew up with but also Alice, Ruby, and Robert that passed at a young age. Her son Jeff was also there to welcome her home.

Mae is survived by her younger sister Thelma and her children Sharyll and husband Don of Kentucky, Cynthia of Lexington, and Michael of Lexington. She also had 6 grandchildren - Jennifer, Nicole, Joshua, Bryce, David, and Justin and their spouses - many of whom she raised herself.

She also raised or had a daily role in several of her numerous great grandchildren’s lives such as Samantha, Isabella, and Antonio. However, she loved all her kids equally even if she didn’t see them very day.

She always said she hated “kids, cats, and dogs” but she always had an open home and heart. She welcomed many others into her life that called her Nana and loved her as their own just as she loved them. They all fought over the title of Henry or Henryetta because we all knew that that was her favorite person.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Trinity Baptist Church on Thursday, October 27, 2022. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
