Funeral Services will be held in the Sanctuary of the Bartlesville First Church, 4715 Price Road on Tuesday, July 5th at 2:00pm for Barbara June (Graves) (Gregg) Hollingsworth who passed away June 30, 2016 in Owasso, OK. Visitation will be at Stumpff Funeral Home, 1600 SE Washington (S Hwy 75), Bartlesville from noon Friday, July 1st to 8:00pm. Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 8:00pm.
Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, KS.
Barbara J. Hollingsworth was born in Caney, KS on September 29, 1920, daughter of Ernest McKinley and Ethel Zora (Brown) Graves. She has one brother Harry Ernest Graves.
Barbara lived and attended Grade School and High School in Caney, moving to Mesa, AZ her Senior year were she graduated in 1938. Receiving a music scholarship, she attended Arizona State Teachers College in Tempe where she became a member of the College Vocal Choirs & Philomation Sorority and received many top honors for her vocal and acting talents.
Barbara married Joe K Gregg on September 1, 1940 in Caney at the Methodist Church. They had three sons, Gary K. Gregg a 1961 graduate of CHS, Charles "Chuck" Gregg a 1963 graduate of CHS and Mark David Gregg, who fell through the ice on their pond February 17, 1960, age 6 and drowned. Joe and Barbara divorced in September 1960.
Barbara married Erwin Dean "Holly" Hollingsworth on July 17, 1963 in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Tucson, AZ, where her parents lived. Holly was an Architectural Engineer with Phillips Petroleum Co in Bartlesville until 1967 when Phillips sent him to London & Stavanger, Norway. Holly retired in 1969 moving to Tucson, AZ so they could spend time with Barbara's folks.
In 2000 they moved to Dewey, OK, where Holly passed away in Aug 2004. They were married 41 years.
Music played a great part in her life. She was a lyric Soprano and played the clarinet & piano. She was active in the Methodist Church choirs all her life and sang at many weddings, recitals and funerals.
She had the leading roll of Arlene in the opera "Bohemian Girl" in 1939 and the leading role in the Mesa High School Operetta "Hilda of Holland". Barbara also had a supporting role in "Music Man" in 1962, produced by the Neewolloh Co. in Independence, Ks.
Though the years she was also an active member of the 20th Century Sunday School Class, a Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother, active P.T.A., Sigorneyan Club, Progressive Mothers & Golf Country Club member. She loved helping people and was a volunteer for meals on Wheels and Mobile meals. In 2004 she became a 50 year member of "The Order of Eastern Star #112" in Coffeyville, KS.
Barbara enjoyed playing golf and bridge and was part of 6 generations of family golfers. She loved having "parties" at their home for her sons and their friends - always putting on a good feed. While living in Tucson, she would have grand kids come out, 1 at a time, for two week visits - what fun they had.
Surviving family members are a brother Rev. Harry E. Graves, Cunningham, KS; sons Gary & wife Sandy Gregg, Fenton, MO; Chuck & wife Onie Gregg, Owasso, OK. Barbara's grand, great and great great grandchildren: Mark Allen Gregg and son Jayden, Fenton, MO; Aaron K. Gregg, wife Alicia and son Bryton and daughter Ansley, Justin, TX; Robbi Jo Gregg Herrman, husband Paul, sons Nathan, Logan and daughter Ella, Gridley, KS; Jimmi D Gregg Cornforth, daughters Delaney Cornforth, Bonita Springs, FL and Rachael Jane Waner, OKC ; Connie Jo Evatt Goad, husband Carl, sons Casey and Brady and wife Bailey and GG grandsons sons Jason & Cale.
Nieces: Melodie A Graves Riggs & Roger, children Amy, Jerrod & Justin , Lyons. KS ; Cari L. Graves Conger/Eldeen & David, children Matthew & Rebecca, Arvada, CO; Andrea R Graves Shipman & Lenn, children Andrew and Brenna, Wichita, KS; Sarah B Smith Haverkamp & Rusty, sons John & Matthew, Morrison, CO; Patricia Hollingsworth Mayor, Lawrence, KS.
Nephews: Robert Smith, wife Gail, daughter Jennie, Cini. OH; Gregg Smith, sons Ben & Chuck, Damascus, VA; Great Nephew Dr. Kevin Mayor, wife Teresa, Leawood, KS.
Barbara was proceeded in death by her husband Erwin D. Hollingsworth, son Mark David Gregg; Parents Ernest McKinley & Ethel Zora Colegrove Brown Graves.
