H. K Holland long time resident and business owner in Ridgecrest died of natural causes, Wednesday, July 29, 2004 at Bakersfield Heart Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday August 5, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Monsignor, Kevin Cleary will officiate at St. Anns Catholic Church, Ridgecrest Ca. Visitation will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, August 3 and 4, from, 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Holland and Lyons Chapel. Interment will be at Desert Memorial Park with military graveside rites.
H. K is survived by, Wife of twenty three years, Toni Holland, Ridgecrest, Daughter, Debra Holland-Cameron, Ridgecrest, Son, David Holland and wife Sigrid, Carmel Valley Ca, Son, Jerry Evans, Ridgecrest, Grandchildren, Daniel Unger, Justin Dunn. Dianna Dunn, Cierra Cameron, Mason Holland, Trevor Holland, Jacob Holland, Bryan Milbrath, Jason Evans, Christina Evans, Michael Glover, Great Grandchildren, Kaylee Milbrath, Jacob Milbrath, numerous nieces and nephews. H. K was preceded in death by wife, Emogene Holland in 1970, and son, Donald Holland in 1983.
H. K was born in Delhi, Oklahoma, Dec. 27, 1928. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served four years active duty during the Korean conflict. During the Korean War he attended the Air Force Psychiatry School, where he learned a lot about himself and dealing with people. He graduated from Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1950, Licensed and operated funeral homes in Texas and New Mexico. He moved to Ridgecrest in 1964, from Florida and operated a flower shop for three years. H. K was the President and Founder of Holland and Lyons Mortuary since 1967 where he continued to serve the community until his death. He was President and owner of Desert Memorial Park since 1986. H. K was a licensed crematory authority and owned IWV Cremation Service since 1992. H. K was highly involved in the community of Ridgecrest and Kern County. He served as President, Vice President and member of the Kern County Funeral directors Association. He was actively involved in the community and served in the following areas; active member of the Ridgecrest Chamber of Commerce, President and member of Friends of Fair, a non profit organization which raised funds for capital improvements for the Desert Empire Fair Grounds. Past President and member of E.T.I Corral 14. Past President and member of the Exchange Club, member of the B.P.O Elks Lounge #1903, Member of the American Legion # 684, Member of the Masonic Lodge of Ridgecrest, member of the Mens Full Gospel International Association, He served as Board of Director of GEBA ,and the Ridgecrest Balloon Festival.
H. K was loved by not only his family but his community and well respected by his colleagues. His love for people was constantly being exhibited, through his ability and willingness to serve others. He made friends throughout the years, through the many organizations in which he served. As wagon master and member of the unique organization of Corral 14, he was able to express his pioneer spirit and lived out that pioneer spirit by traveling through Death Valley in a covered wagon. One of his favorite past times was to drive his team of horses or mules whether it be in the open desert or parades. Also, he was chairman and co-chairman of the Desert Empire Fair Parade for many years. Avid supporter and participant of Bishop Mule Days. He loved being surrounded by family throughout the year, but Christmas was his favorite. He seemed to enjoy seeing his grandchildren sitting on Santas lap and always made sure all had plenty to eat. All will sorely miss this wonderful man that was loved by so many.
