Wake services for Virginia T. "Brownie" Hobbs, 84, Stillwater, will be at 7:00 PM Friday January 29, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 AM Saturday January 30, 2016 at St. Josephs officiated by Rev. Ed Menasco and Rev. Michael Irwin.
Brownie was born in Douglas on November 30, 1931 to Ed and Virgie Hickey. She attended grade school at College Corner, a one room school. She graduated from high school at St. Joseph's High School in Enid. Following high school she attended nursing school in Enid and Wichita, Kansas and earned a bachelors degree in nursing at St. Anthony's Nursing School in Oklahoma City.
Brownie married Haden Karcher Hobbs at F. E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1952 where Karcher was stationed in the Air Force. In 1953 Brownie joined Karcher at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii for a short stay. In 1954 they were relocated to Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Forth, Texas where Brownie worked at the municipal hospital as an R. N. It was during this time their first daughter Linda Lou was born.
From Ft. Worth the family moved to Hennessey where their second daughter Ginger was born. Brownie and Karcher then moved to Stillwater so Karcher could finish his degree at Oklahoma State University while Brownie worked at Stillwater hospital. After Karchers graduation they moved to Guymon where their third daughter Suzanne was born. In Guymon Brownie worked for Dr. Buford at the hospital. Brownie and Karcher then moved to Duncan where she worked for Dr. Beasley and was the county health nurse. They then moved to Beloit, Kansas then to Hoxie, Kansas where Brownie always worked at doctor offices and hospitals.
Brownie and Karcher moved back to Hennessey and Brownie opened Brownie's Dress Shop in 1980 and continued there until 1995. Her last move was with Karcher back to Stillwater where she could enjoy her grandchildren and cheer for OSU sports.
Brownie is survived by her husband Karcher of the home; three daughters Linda Howe and husband Dale of Hennessey, Ginger Vincent of Stillwater, Suzanne Maxwell and husband Rickey of Enid; six grandchildren Katie Barrett of Seattle, Washington, Cody Vincent of Dover, Kendsy Vincent of Oklahoma City, Tyler Maxwell of Houston, Mitch Maxwell of Enid, Amy Charmasson and husband Chad of Hennessey; four beautiful great-grandchildren Avery and Jack Barrett of Seattle and Cade and Crew Charmasson of Hennessey.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Virgie Hickey; two sisters LaJeanne Buckner and Marie St. Martin.
Brownie was a devout Catholic attending all church services when possible and insister her family attend with her.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital with the funeral home serving as custodian.
