Carolyn Ruth (Parr) Hoadley

November 10, 1952 ~ September 08, 2017

Carolyn Ruth Hoadley of Flint, Michigan, died suddenly and much too soon on Friday, September 8, 2017, at McLaren Hospital in Flint. She was 64 years of age.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 14, at Plumb-Smith Funeral Home in Flint, Michigan. Carolyn's brother-in-law, Chaplain Bobby Payne, officiated the service.

Carolyn was born to Howard and Juanita (Houghtelin) Parr on November 10, 1952, in Cherokee, Oklahoma. She lived in Amorita, Oklahoma, and attended elementary school there.

She graduated from Burlington (Oklahoma) High School as a member of the Class of 1970. Carolyn attended both Northwestern State College and Oklahoma State University, earning a degree in industrial education from Northwestern in Alva, Oklahoma.

Later, Carolyn also earned an associate's degree in computer aided drafting from Mott Community College in Flint.

Carolyn worked in the Oklahoma City area before setting off for an adventure in Colorado. While working near Denver, she met the love of her life, Ken Hoadley.

They were married in the First Baptist Church of Cherokee, Oklahoma, on March 11, 1982.

After her years in Colorado, where she held several jobs including an underground miner, Carolyn and Ken moved to Flint, Michigan, to be near Ken's family.

Her primary job in Flint was caring for her husband, family, and neighbors. Carolyn cherished her time with Ken, her friends, and her extended family. She spent time cooking and baking for others and crafting.

For 30 years, Carolyn was the superintendent of the Folk Arts for the Genesee County Fair. That week was special for her every year.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Ken; her mother, Juanita Parr of Amorita, Oklahoma; brothers, Bob (Connie) Parr of Nash, Oklahoma, and Harold (Suzy) Parr of Oklahoma City; sister Janette (Bobby) Payne of Kearney, Nebraska; mother-in-law, Margaret Hoadley of Flint; sister-in-law, Sharon Riddel of Port Huron; brothers-in-law, Jim (Shelley) Hoadley of Gaines and Steve Hoadley of Montrose; her best friend, Jamie Silpoch; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Parr; a cousin, Steven Parr; and father-in-law, Kenneth C. Hoadley.

Memorials may be sent to Stamp Out Starvation, 305 E. Spruce, Amorita, OK 73719.
