Gladys Elaine (Lynes) Hixson was born on January 2, 1943 to Claude Alvin and Irene Vernie (Harris) Lynes at their home west of Vici, Oklahoma. Gladys lived at Vici where she attended school and graduated. Following her education at Vici, she moved to Weatherford and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University. On February 11, 1966, Gladys was married to the love of her life Sammy J Hixson at the Arnett Courthouse. To this union was born four children, Tanda Gale, Rosann Rene’, Ladina Jo, and Dusty Jay.
Gladys worked at the Vici Nursing Home at two different times, when it first opened for three years, and then for two years from 1960-1962. But when Gladys got married, she lived as a dairy farmer. While she kept up with the farm chores, she attended to the needs of her husband and children. When she had the time, she liked to fill it with quilting and sewing projects, art school and painting projects, baking some good food, and visiting with her friends and neighbors. Gladys’s skills as a quilter led her to become a member of the Turner Quilting Club. Gladys was baptized into the Christian Church as a child, and spent many years faithfully attending the First Christian Church in Vici.
Gladys passed from this life on April 26, 2019. Preceding her in death are her parents, Claude and Irene Lynes; husband, Sammy Hixson; daughter, Tanda Hixson; and brothers, Billy Lynes, Alvin Lynes, and Jesse Lynes.
