John William Hinthorn, 91, of Bartlesville, OK died on May 3, 2025.
He was born Southeast of Longton, KS in 1934 to John Thomas and Mary (Attebery) Hinthorn. During his time on the farm, he and 6 sisters helped milk cows, farm with horses, drew water from a hand well and did school work by a coal oil lamp. He attended grade school in a one room school house south of Longton. He graduated from Longton High School in 1952. John graduated from Coffeyville Community College in 1954 with an associate of arts degree. He did additional schooling with The Boeing company in Wichita, KS to learn tool design. John attended the University of Colorado where he learned CAD.
John served in the United States Navy from July 1954 to July 1956. During that time, he earned the National Defense Service Medal. He served for 1 year as an aid to Lieutenant Commander J.M. Moraski in Maryland. John spent his off time at the Smithsonian Museums in Washington D.C. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves until July 27, 1962.
After John’s duty in the Navy and the Reserves he lived and worked all over the United States and overseas. He worked as a computer graphics operator/programmer, drafting for power plants and railroad freight car design, a liaison between engineering departments and field crews. He was presently working for an energy company as a liaison between CEOs and draftsmen. In his free time John loved to write short stories and poems. He has had several of his works printed in magazines.
John W. Hinthorn was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters Verna Meise, Laura Carter, Alma White, and Virgina White. He is survived by 2 sisters Erma Wilson of Sterling, KS and Marilyn (Doug) Comstock of Elk City, KS, and many nieces and nephews.
John will be buried at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
