James Lee "Jim" Hinkle

James Lee "Jim" Hinkle
July 10, 1954 ~ May 12, 2023

James Lee Hinkle, fondly known as “Jimbo”, was born July 10, 1954 to Leo and Mable Hinkle in Newton, KS. He was the third of four Hinkle children.

Jim was surrounded by family when he was unexpectedly called home to meet Jesus on May 12, 2023 in Oklahoma City.

Jim was a genuine guy, kind and lighthearted. He had a great sense of humor, and a contagious laugh. Jim had a passion for people. He never knew a stranger and always had a smile on his face. He was funny, charming and a bit mischievous. He liked to lend a helping hand to the people in his life.

When Jim was a toddler, the family moved to Enid, OK. Jim was an active and friendly kid. He made friends easily and enjoyed playing sports and being outdoors. His passion for fishing began at a young age and continued throughout his life. As a teenager, Jim excelled in tennis at Enid H.S. The trophies are still on display. He graduated from EHS in 1973. After high school, Jim went to work with the Santa Fe Railroad, where he remained for many years. He became a licensed paralegal and had very successful careers in real estate and retail sales. When Jim retired at 65, he reconnected with old friends and railroad buddies. He enjoyed working on things around the house and was very proud of his yard and flowers. When he wasn’t spending time with family or friends or doing things around the house, Jim was watching movies. His favorites were faith-based and uplifting. He built a close relationship with Christ over the years and developed a deep and lasting faith. He enjoyed cheering for the OU Sooner football team and kept up with the OKC Thunder.

Jim committed himself to Debbie eleven years ago when they decided to share their lives and find new adventures together. They went on several cruises, including an extended Alaskan cruise, and traveled throughout Oklahoma and Texas. They especially enjoyed spending time in Port Aransas and at the beaches in Texas. Whether out and about, or relaxing at their home in Edmond, Jim and Deb just appreciated being together. Jim recently expressed how much he loved his life with Deb and how at peace he felt.

Jim was greatly loved and will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Leo and Mable Agnes Hinkle; sister-in-law, Janice Hinkle; and nephew, Rodney Stevens.

He is survived by his love, Debbie Hulett; her two sons, Ryan Hornak (Brooke) and two grandchildren and Jordan Hoehne (Maryn Fridley); brothers, Dick Hinkle and Randy Hinkle (Susie); and sister, Barbara Hutcheson; daughter, Jamie Leigh, and two grandchildren; stepson, Clifford Chastain (Andrea) and three grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, May 19, 2023, at Mosaic Church, 5821 N.W Expressway, OKC. Flowers should be sent to Mercer- Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany OK. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
