Luther Gayle Hilburn age 67 of Newcastle, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, October 23, 2017 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Luther was born on June 1, 1950 in Snyder, Texas the youngest of five children. His parents were Day Hilburn and Edith (Bass) Hilburn. Luther grew up and attended school in Snyder, Texas. At the age of 15, he started learning auto mechanic and worked as a mechanic for 10 years. At the age of 25, he then started his life long career as a truck driver. Luther worked for various trucking companies in Texas and Oklahoma. For the past eight years he has worked of Stevens Trucking in Oklahoma City.
On February 14, 1970, in Denton, TX, Luther married the love of his life, Wylene Hodges. Together they raised two children, Cheryl and Mark. He moved his family to Edmond, OK in the early 1970. They later lived in Yukon for eight years, before moving to Newcastle in 2015. Luther loved working with his hands, spending time in the outdoors and fixing up the property that he and Wylene recently bought in Newcastle. Throughout his life he has enjoyed fishing and boating. Most of all Luther enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by: Parents, Day and Edith Hilburn; Brothers, Larrell Brents and Ronnie Hilburn;
He is survived by: Wife of 47 years, Wylene of the home in Newcastle, Daughter, Cheryl Westbrook of Newcastle, Son, Mark Hilburn and wife April of Owasso, OK, Brother, Gene Hilburn of Ft, Worth, TX, Sister, Sharon Eason of Edmond, OK; Several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Everyone is invited for a time of visitation with Luther's family, from 5-8 pm Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home, 3132 Tri City Ave, Newcastle, OK.
No services are scheduled after Wednesday, Luther choose cremation and for his ashes to be scattered by his family.
