After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Janetta Higgins, was called home to Heaven on December 15th 2024. She peacefully passed away at Homestead Assisted Living Center in Kingfisher, OK with her loved ones by her side.
Janetta Gail Montcastle was born on July 6, 1954 in Okeene, Oklahoma to Ivan and Charlotte Montcastle. She attended Ames School where she graduated in 1972. In 1974, Janetta met the love of her life, Barry Higgins. Together, they raised their three children, Aaron, Andrea, and Sara. They were happily married for 47 years on their farm southeast of Ames. Barry and Janetta enjoyed their days together taking care of the family farm, planting beautiful flowers, and tending to their numerous animals. Janetta was a hard worker and had great knack for bossing people around. She served Enid Public Schools in a variety of roles for many years until her retirement in 2019.
Janetta’s greatest love was for her family. She had a servant’s heart and always took pride in caring, cooking for, and spoiling them. She enjoyed spending time watching her grandkids participate in their various activities. She was and will always be their biggest fan whether they are in the classroom, on the baseball or football field, or on the basketball court. Even when she was not well enough to attend the games in person, you would find her hosting a watch party viewing their games on television.
Janetta is survived by her mother Charlotte Montcastle of Ames, husband Barry of Ames, son Aaron Higgins of OKC, daughter Andrea Cooper and husband Chad of Kingfisher, and daughter Sara Lewallen and husband Kevin of Omega, OK. Her beloved grandchildren include Kira Higgins of Enid, Cade, Chace, and Olyvia Cooper of Kingfisher, and Laken and Ledger Lewallen of Omega.
Janetta was preceded in death by her father Ivan Montacastle, brother Raymond Montcastle, and her granddaughter Lanie Gail Lewallen. Janetta’s family would like to thank everyone for their generous outpouring of love and support that they have provided. A private memorial service was already held for Janetta’s family.
