Marvin Lloyd Hickman

Marvin Lloyd Hickman, 88, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Wellington Care Center in Wellington, Texas.

In accordance with Lloyd’s wishes his cremains will be inurned at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where a Memorial Service will be conducted at a later date.

Lloyd was born December 20, 1922 in Springdale, Arkansas to John B. and Mary Etta (Trout) Hickman. He lived in Harmon County for the first eighteen years of his life and then moved back to Gould in 1982, where he has resided until present.

Lloyd joined the U. S. Navy on December 21, 1940 and served until December 27, 1946 as a Ship’s Cook First Class. He served on the USS Tennessee, USS Plunger, USS Holland, USS Litchfield, USS Carlisle, and the USS Severn. He was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor bombing during WWII. He married Alladeene Jones on February 24, 1946 in Waukegan, Illinois, and after her death he married Cathy James on August 7, 1980 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked as a Heating/AC Tech for Redlands, California ISD until his retirement.

Lloyd was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Public Employees Union, California 10th District Commander, Illinois American Legion, and he served as President of the California School Employees Union. Lloyd enjoyed educating school children and Civic Organizations about Pearl Harbor Invasion and WWII.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Cathy Hickman of Gould, OK; one daughter, Bonnie Stegall and husband James of Gould, OK; one son, David Hickman and wife Lisa of Placentia, CA; two stepsons, Chuck James of Corpus Christ, TX and Craig James of Houston, TX; two grandsons, Chance James of Gould, OK and David Hickman of Placentia, CA; two granddaughters, Melissa Hickman and Justine Hickman both of Placentia, CA; one brother, Ray Hickman of Tolovana Park, OR; and one sister, Pauline Wynn of Mangum, OK.

Mr. Hickman was preceded in death by his first wife, Alladeene Hickman; his parents, John and Mary Hickman; three brothers, Bud Hickman, John Jr. Hickman, and Herman Hickman; and one sister, Wanda Williams.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Gould Cemetery Fund.
