Walter Irvin Herod

April 6, 1931 ~ September 19, 2021

Memorial service for Walt Herod will be Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 am in Hennessey First Baptist Church with Jimmy Berkenbile officiating. Cremation arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory, Enid.

Walter “Walt” Irvin Herod, age 90, of Hennessey, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at his home on September 19, 2021. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

Walt was born on April 6, 1931 in Galveston, Texas to Lee and Pearl (Ratcliff) Herod. He was the seventh of eight children born to this union.

Walt married Barbara DeLambert on June 8, 1952 in Maybell, Colorado. They welcomed three children, son Danny and daughters, Joyce and Janet. Walt worked 38 years for Conoco Oil, traveling from place to place on a seismograph crew. Their travels landed the family in Hennessey, Oklahoma, where they were finally able to set roots. After retiring from Conoco, Walt worked twenty years at Hennessey Schools as custodian and maintenance. Walt finally settled on retirement at the young age of 85. Walt was a 32nd degree Mason with the Coronado Masonic Lodge #56 in Hennessey.

Walt joins in eternal life with his parents, Lee and Pearl; daughters Joyce (Herod) Teeples and Janet (Herod) West; granddaughter, Kathlene Teeples; brothers, Archie, Bert, Leslie, Marion, and George; and sister, Lila (Herod) Mower.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara of the home; son, Dan Herod (Jan) of Kansas City, Kansas; brother, Richard; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
