Ruby Jean (Bunch) Hernandez was born at home in Stilwell, Oklahoma on March 16, 1949 to McKinley and Jacqueline (Adair) Bunch. Two years later, she became the big sister to Nancy Lee (Bunch) Gonzalez.
After graduating from Stilwell High School, she went on to attend and graduate from Haskell Indian Junior College with a degree in Culinary Science. With her degree, she had the opportunity to travel the country and hone her skills to become the great cook / baker that we knew her to be. Ruby later returned to Kansas and accepted a position at Haskell, as one of their cooks, making homemade meals for the students for over 30 years.
Ruby married Tomas Hernandez on February 22, 1978 and welcomed twin girls, Karina and Margarita. Two years later, they welcomed a third daughter, Tomasina. They were married for over 42 years.
She loved to cook, crochet, spend time with her grandkids, visit her in-laws in Mexico and going to garage sales with her sister, Nancy. Ruby faithfully attended Cherry Tree Baptist Church for many years.
She was called home on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 7:30 am, surrounded by her family.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents: McKinley and Jacqueline Bunch, her in-laws: Margarito Gonzalez, Margarita Martinez and Silbestre Hernandez.
She is survived by her husband: Tomas Hernandez of Stilwell, OK, three daughters: Karina Martinez and her fiance’ Jose Bahena of Springdale, AR, Margarita Hernandez and husband Israel Anguiano of Tahlequah, OK, Tomassina Hernandez and best friend Jason Riddle of Lawrence, KS, 5 grandchildren: Makayla Hernandez of Tahlequah, Amaiyah and Dante of Tahlequah, Joaquin and Jacqulyn of Springdale, sister: Nancy Gonzalez and husband Silverio of Stilwell, son: McKinley Hernandez of Stilwell, aunt: Charlotte Grimmett of Stilwell and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 am on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Roberts/Reed-Culver Chapel, Stilwell, Oklahoma with Bro. D J McCarter officiating
