Dr. Manuel Hensley

December 20, 1934 ~ September 30, 2014

Dr. Manuel Hensley was born December 20, 1934 to Jake and Myrtle (Sutton) Hensley in Frog Level, AR and passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in the Angelwood Assisted Living Center in Clinton, Oklahoma.

Dr. Hensley was raised in De Queen, AR and graduated from De Queen High School in 1952. He began a short career with the railroad but soon attended Forestry School. In the Mid 1950's he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, served four years, and then being honorably discharged. He moved to Bethany, Oklahoma and attended Southern Nazarene College. He was married to Dorothy Clark in the late 1950's. He continued on to Oklahoma University Medical School and graduated in 1965. He did his internship at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS and his residency in Phoenix, AZ. He was Board Certified in OB GYN and he practiced over most of Oklahoma including Durant, Woodward and the majority of his practice was in Enid, OK

He later married Shirley Schmidt on February 12, 1990 in Taos, New Mexico. They have traveled and lived in numerous places since 1995, settling in De Queen, AR in 2010. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Enid, OK and has been attending the First Baptist Church in Nashville, Arkansas. He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing, he was an avid historian and especially liked Civil War History; he liked to read and spending time on the ranch

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Margaret, Thelma and Velma.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home, two sons, Dr. Michael Hensley and his wife, Rachel, of Clinton, OK and Dr. John Hensley and his wife, Anne, of Enid, OK; two sisters, Elsie Clowers, De Queen, AR and Mary Frances Veazey, of Oklahoma City, OK, a brother, Bob Hensley, of Rogers, AR. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Tadyn Miller, Catherine Hensley, Porter Hensley, Tyson Miller, Christian Jake Manuel Hensley, Stella Hensley and Allison Hensley.

Funeral Services for Dr. Manuel Hensley will be held 3:00 PM., Saturday, October 4, 2014 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with Donald Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of the Wilkerson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Friday, October 3rd at the funeral home.
