Jack Ray Hendrix was born February 26, 1924 in Blackburn, Pawnee County, Oklahoma to Alex and Elma (Eberhardt) Hendrix and died June 12, 2014 in Newalla, Oklahoma at 90 years of age, surrounded by loving family. Jack was raised in Waunetta, Chautauqua County, Kansas by his mother Elma and step-father Clarence E. Jones and attended school in Cedarvale, Kansas.
He joined the Army July 1943 and fought in World War II in the 84th Infantry Division "Railsplitters" in Germany at the Battle of the Bulge and other engagements and was mustered out March 1946.
On August 19, 1946 he married Earlene Dee Morris in Caney, Kansas and they have spent the last 68 years providing a home for and building a family together in the Oklahoma City area. In May of 1951 Jack was hired by Phillips Petroleum Company of Bartlesville, Oklahoma as a pipeline corrosion engineer where he worked until retirement in August 1985 with 34 years of service, working in the Mid-Continent Division of Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas, where he made many acquaintances and lasting friendships.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Florene Randel and Imogene Nance and brother John Hendrix.
He is survived by his loving wife Earlene, sons Billy Jack and wife Vickie of Quincy Fl, Earl (Eddie) and wife Sally of Newalla, Ok and Gary and wife Mary of Midwest City, Ok, along with 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, spanning 5 generations.
Papa-Jack was a devoted father and grandfather who has filled his family with wit and wisdom their entire lives and will be sorely missed, but he's now in God's presence and we rejoice.
Viewings will be held at Barnes & Friederich Funeral Home, (405) 733-2991, 1820 S. Douglas Blvd, Midwest City, Oklahoma on Sunday June 15 for the family from 8 until noon and public from noon until 8 pm and Monday June 16 from 8 am to 8 pm. There will be a meet and greet period to visit with the family Monday from 6 to 8 pm.
Memorial services will be at Barnes & Friederich's at 2 pm Tuesday June 17 with Pastor David Tompkins and Pastor Frank Wiley officiating, with no gravesite services following.
