Barbara Kay (Jones) Hendrickson

Barbara Kay (Jones) Hendrickson
December 18, 1939 ~ August 2, 2020

Barbara Kay (Jones) Hendrickson, resident of Ponca City, went home to be with her lord on the 2nd day of August, 2020. She was 80 years old.

Barbara was born December 18, 1939 in Ponca City to Clay and Alice (Mitchell) Jones. She grew up in Ponca City and graduated in The PoHi class of 1958. In May, the same year, she made the mistake of accepting a blind date with Donald K. “Donnie” Hendrickson. They were married on October 4, 1958 and celebrated their 61st anniversary last year. He was heard to say “Babe, it was a wonderful trip”.

Barbara enjoyed traveling and making a home out of a house/apartment for them in London, England, Libya, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Singapore, Indonesia, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and the foreign country of Texas. When they were home from Oil Patch projects, her many talents were used to finish the interior of her “Cabin” in the woods near Wilburton, Oklahoma as well as flower beds among the rocks surrounding it. In her spare time she pieced several quilts, played with the grandchildren and great grandson, attended the ladies Red Hats dinners, worked with the United Methodist Women’s group, entertaining guests and read a lot of books. Oh!, how she loved her Piney woods.

Barbara had many talents and was never short of ideas. For example, she decided one year that the church needed costumes for the Nativity scene players. It took a lot of garage sales to get the materials needed to make adjustable costumes so they would fit all sizes of individuals. These costumes are still in use.

She is survived by her husband, Don Hendrickson, a sister, Rosalie Zimmerman, brother, Richard Jones, daughter, Amy Turner, One Granddaughter, Alyssa Turner, two Grandsons and their wives, Joel and Wendy Turner, Kurt and Miranda Turner, one Great grandson, Blaze French, three nieces, Sharon Newman, Erin Zimmerman and Robin Vallier, two nephews, Charles Hendrickson and Sean Zimmerman.

She was preceded in death by her son, Don Jr. “Andy”, and her parents, Clay and Alice Jones.

Services will be held in Wilburton, Oklahoma on Saturday August 15, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the United Methodist Church and in Ponca City, Oklahoma on Friday August 21, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Grace Memorial Chapel.
