 John C. Henderson

 John C. Henderson
February 13, 1931 ~ August 15, 2013

John C. Henderson was born on February 13, 1931 in Waldron, Arkansas to Ethel & James Henderson.

John was 1 of 9 children. The oldest was Perion then Alfred Lee, Fred, Alfred, James, John, Raydell, L.B. and Mable.

John served in the U.S. Army from 1952 " 1954 and then began work at Tinker Air Force Base as an electronic technician. He worked there until he retired in 1987.

John also worked on TV"s part time in his garage for extra money. He could fix anything and refused to throw anything away. John"s greatest hobby was tending to his garden. He grew okra, green beans, tomatoes, beets, radishes, and onions. Other hobbies included bowling, dominoes, and playing horseshoes.

John met Betty at Midwest Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1956. They were together 6 months before John proposed. He proposed in his 1950"s Plymouth in the driveway of Betty"s sister Mary"s home. According to some Pentecostal beliefs at that time it was sinful to wear certain types of jewelry like a wedding ring. John gave Betty silverware and a watch in exchange for her hand in marriage. To avoid any fuss over a wedding the couple decided to elope to Del City on June 15, 1956 at a Pentecostal Holiness Church. Only a few close friends were invited to witness their exchange of vows. The couple then went to Ponca City to tell Betty"s parents. Although they were surprised, they blessed the marriage as her parents thought highly of John. Their home church threw them a shower and John"s brother, Raydell, instigated a chivalry to honor and celebrate the marriage. This consisted of John pushing Betty in a wheel barrel down the street with their church family walking with them. Raydell, not telling the couple, lead them to the local jail and told the police to lock the newlyweds up. The couple spent 5 minutes in jail that day.

On November 5, 1957 the couple had their first baby, Karen Sue Henderson. Karen came early while Betty was sick with the flu. Karen was born in Hubbard Hospital in Oklahoma City. On April 8, 1961 the couple had their second baby, Michael John Henderson. He was also born at Hubbard Hospital. On May 30, 1972 the couple had their third baby, Randy Dale Henderson. The doctor switched hospitals without notifying the couple and they went to the wrong hospital while Betty was in labor. J

ohn was preceded in death by his parents and 8 of his siblings.

Survived by his loving wife Betty, youngest brother L.B., his daughter Karen and her husband Jeff Jones of Harrah, his son Mike of Midwest City and his son Randy and his wife Sarah of Kingfisher. 6 grandchildren: Candice, Kyle, Taylor, Rylee, Max & Kate.
