Margaret "Jane" (Smith) Helmley

December 14, 1937 ~ October 8, 2020 (age 82)

Jane was born to Mike and Theresa Marak Smith on December 14, 1937 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Jane married Chuck Helmley on February 15, 1958 in Kiowa, Kansas. Jane worked as a seamstress and owned the Country Corral Clothing Store, and for the last 29 years was a co-owner of the Plum Thickett Inn.

She is survived by daughter, Sue Becker and husband, Scott; son, Mike Helmley and wife, Linda; son-in-law, Kavin Palmer; grandchildren, Ashlee Reed and husband, Clint, Justin Helmley, Katie Hughes and husband, Jay; great grandchildren, Laken, Jacob, and Paxton Hughes; two sisters, Judy Ross of Wichita and Dodi Doelling of Kiowa.

She was preceded in death by husband, Chuck; daughter, Jill Palmer; sister, Joyce Conrad, and parents, Mike and Theresa Smith.

The family would like to acknowledge the special care given to her by Jody Berry and the Wound Care Team, Kiowa District Hospital, and her close personal friend, Cindy Talley.

Memorials may be given to Kiowa District Hospital through the funeral home.

Graveside service for Jane will be Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery. There will be no viewing. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa.
