Funeral Service for Ernie Hays, 77, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Stittsworth's Memory Chapel. Cremation to follow under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service. Visitation with family will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 26.
Ernie was born November 5, 1941, to Andrew and Mabel Hays in Enid, Oklahoma, and passed away peacefully June 22, 2018, at his home in Enid, surrounded by family.
Ernie attended schools in Enid. He worked in the oilfield as a driller, then owned his own welding business before starting and owning his concrete business for 20 years before becoming ill.
He loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, listening to country music and telling humorous jokes.
Ernie knew he was greatly loved by his family. Ernie is survived by wife Kathryn, of the home; daughters and stepchildren, LeaAnn Pelfrey (Charles) and Annette Allison of North Carolina, JD Davenport of Sasakwa, Dr. Michael Davenport (Kris) of Illinois and Dennis Davenport, Johnny Davenport (Tina), Kathy Semmel (Terry), Steven Davenport (Lane), all of Enid; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bob Hays (Sondra) of Enid, Merriann Martin (Bill) of Texas, Tom Hays (Susan) of Arizona, Wayne Hays of Ponca City; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Billy, sister Marie Baldwin (James); stepdaughter Nancy; stepgranddaughter Tisha; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to thank Valir Hospice and staff for caring for him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valir Hospice and OMRF, COPD Division.
