Eleanor G. (Mercer) Haymes

March 7, 1913 ~ December 6, 2008

Eleanor G. Haymes, a former Cushing resident, now of Broken Arrow, passed away on Saturday evening, December 6, 2008 at the age of 95 years.

The daughter of the late Edward A. Mercer and Inez Moats Mercer, Eleanor was born on March 7, 1913 in East Liverpool, Ohio. She grew up and attended schools in Drumright, graduating from Drumright High School.

She was united in marriage to Harold W. Haymes on November 21, 1929 in Drumright. Upon marriage, the couple established their home in Cushing. To this union two sons, David L. and Don J. were born. Harold preceded her in death on December 21, 1985, after 56 years of marriage.

Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. As a gentle loving woman of faith, she actively worked alongside her husband Harold, who pastored Baptist churches in the Cushing area at Avery, Calvary, Council Valley and Oak Street Baptist in Cushing.

Survivors include two sons, David L. Haymes and Don J. Haymes, both of Broken Arrow; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

On Saturday evening, Eleanor's prayers to be with her Lord Jesus were answered. Her family rejoices with her and celebrates her long and blessed life.

Services will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Davis Memorial Chapel.
