Helen Marie Havlik (Carlsbad, New Mexico), age 93, died peacefully on December 14, 2020. Helen, one of 12, was born in Bison, Oklahoma in her family home on August 10, 1927. She was the daughter of Francis and Anna (Pribyl) Havlik.
Helen received her bachelor's degree 1948 from Mt St Scholastica (Atchison, Kansas) and pursued her passion for teaching until she retired in 1988. In addition to teaching in the Carlsbad school system for nearly 40 years, she also taught is US Service schools in Japan, England, and Germany.
Helen was an active member of St Edward Church in Carlsbad, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a regular volunteer at Jonah's House Food Pantry in Carlsbad.
Helen is survived by nephews and nieces Michael (Kathy), Ellen (Donald) Turney, Mark (Maureen), Debbie Havlik (Mohammed ElBchiri), Dr Kevin Havlik (Dr Carol Ballou), great nieces and nephews Matt Havlik (Julie Frye), Dr Jennifer (Dr Jon) Cone, Andrew Turney, Tarik ElBchiri and Sophia ElBchiri, Dr Katherine, Steven, and Victoria Havlik, and 4 great- great nephews and nieces Alex and Benjamin Havlik and Olivia and Charlotte Cone.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers Dr Aloysius, Rt. Rev Thomas, Rev Bernard, Norbert, and Ernest, and 3 sisters Georgiana, Adella, and Sister Bernadette.
A memorial Mass service for Helen will be held in Carlsbad at a later date. Donations in her memory may be directed to Jonah's House Food Pantry (512 W Stevens, Carlsbad, New Mexico 88220).
