Mary Ruth Pennington Hatfield a beloved resident of Durant, Oklahoma, and member of the Northwest Church of Christ, began her new life on Sunday January 21, 2018 at the age of 93. She was born in Yeager, Oklahoma to W.J. and Lula Belle (Keener) Pennington on January 2, 1925. Mary married Roscoe Hatfield in Holdenville, Oklahoma on December 22, 1949, they were married for 53 years.
Mary was the youngest of eight children. She graduated from Yeager High School, then went on to East Central in Ada, Oklahoma but was unable to finish her degree because of World War II, she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" for McDonald Douglas at Tinker Air Force Base. She was very active at her church serving as a Sunday school teacher for decades. Mary was a Master Gardner, she was known for the beautiful bougainvillea's that covered her front porch, and hibiscus plants. She loved her life caring for her family, and working alongside Roscoe on their ranch keeping bees, baling hay, and raising cattle. Mary was known for her "world famous" chocolate chip cookies, and cherished her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Hatfield is survived by her five children, George Hatfield and wife Beverly of Denison, Texas, Barry Hatfield and wife Katy of Novato, California, Kim Hatfield and wife Suzette of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Pam Clay and husband Greg of Durant, Oklahoma, Kit Hatfield and wife Diane of Grand Junction, Colorado; grandchildren, Blake Hatfield and wife Ronna, Nikki Eastep and husband Clint, Errin Haddock and husband Shane, Amanda Brown and husband Gordon, Spencer Hatfield, Preston Hatfield, Colleen Lee and husband Eric, Kathleen Hatfield, Beth Anderson and husband Nathan, Audrey Loney and husband Aaron, Stephanie Mendell and husband Scott; Stephan Hatfield and wife Jessica, and Karlee Reno and husband Chris; Â great-grandchildren, Tenley Hatfield Williams, Tyler Hatfield, Elijah Brown, Amelia Brown, Ainsley Loney, Abbey Loney, Alivia Loney, Milo Anderson, Josie Mendell, Ellie Mendell, Benjamin Mendell, Holly Hatfield, Evelyn Hatfield, Wolfgang Hatfield, Avery Reno, Sloan Reno, Izzie Haddock, and Hayes Haddock.
Mrs. Hatfield was preceded in death by her parents, W. J. and Lula Belle Pennington; husband, Roscoe Hatfield; siblings, Thurman Pennington, Fletcher Pennington, Nell Shields, Virgie Gentry, Iram Lee Miller, half-siblings, Emory Pennington, Josie Pennington, Ola Rogers, and Vivian Mae Rogers.
Family hour will be from 6-7:00 PM on Tuesday January 23rd at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday January 24th at the Northwest Church of Christ in Durant. Mrs. Hatfield's family will be conducting the service. Pallbearers will be George Hatfield, Barry Hatfield, Kim Hatfield, Kit Hatfield, Greg Clay, Blake Hatfield, and Stefan Hatfield. The honorary pallbearers will be other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
