John D. Hatchett, age 87 of Hominy, passed away from this life on Saturday evening July 29, 2023, at Integris Hospice in Oklahoma City. John was born February 13, 1936, in Tulsa to Carl Lee and Lenora Alberta (Carpenter) Hatchett. He was raised and received his education in Tulsa, graduating from Central High School with the class of 1954. John and Paula Clark met on a blind date in October of 1956, and were united in marriage on August 17, 1957, at the First United Methodist Church in Hominy. In 1958, John enlisted in the National Guard, later transferring to the Army Reserves where he was a weapons Instructor. Following his time in the Reserves, John and Paula lived in Tulsa and Oklahoma City where he worked in the auto parts industry. Later they moved to Ft. John was a man of many activities and talents. He liked to restore cars, ride 4-wheelers, and enjoyed taking trips to Little Sahara in Western Oklahoma. He could fix anything, and enjoyed the challenge of improving the way that things were made. He also designed and patented an ostomy system which he manufactured by hand and used daily. Another pastime was going to Arkansas to dig for diamonds. John and Paula were longtime members of the Hominy First United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Hominy Lodge, serving as Worshipful Master in 1975, and was also a member of the Scottish Rite in Tulsa.
