Donna Hatchett was born June 21, 1937 and entered into eternity January 9, 2023 at the age of 85.
Services will be held at Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing on Saturday January 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Toby Tiner officiating.
She was born southwest of Cushing, Oklahoma near Soonerville, where she started school in a one room school house. She was the oldest of three daughters of Lester Leo Solomon and Estelle Annabelle (Pruitt) Solomon. Her family came to Oklahoma in the 1889 and 1891 land runs and homesteaded near where she was born. She spent her formative years on their farms in and around Cushing and Drumright, Oklahoma and later married Bill Hatchett from Olive, Oklahoma. Bill was in the Navy and they traveled over nearly the entire USA during and after his tour of duty. She even lived in Alaska twice. She loved everyone she met and truly enjoyed getting to know you on a personal level and was always trying to help someone. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and wanted you to know him, as well. If she could wish only one thing for her extended family it would be that each one accepts Christ as their Savior. She wanted all of her grand-children to have a personal relationship with Christ. She wants all of her family and friends to personally come and see her in eternity. That is her wish for you. Even after life robbed her of her sight and ability to read her Bible and speak clearly, she could be overheard late at night trying to pray for each and every one of her family by name, as best she could.
Donna never met a stranger and thought everyone was a close friend and treated them as such. She loved cooking and was able to make a majestic meal from scratch with only the very basic ingredients. She learned from her mother and grandmother who were also exceptional cooks. Her children’s friends loved to eat at her house, knowing they would get a real treat. She loved large gardens and kept the kids busy growing all their foods to be canned and frozen. Donna held an education in very high regard and was always reading to learn new things. She tried to instill this in her children as well. We could always count on being asked exactly what we learned in school and what we had to eat each and every day, without exception. Donna was very adventurous and loved all outdoor adventures. She never thought there was anything she couldn’t do herself on or around the farm, as shown by a broken hip in her late seventies from clearing downed trees off of the road. She was also “Old School”. If it was worth doing, it had to be done right the first time. She was a real fighter. Life robbed her of much of her health early on, but no one ever fought harder to keep going. She did it for her family, which she dearly loved. She never gave up the fight.
Donna was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Celeste Hatchett, and her parents. She is survived by four children, Billy Maurice Hatchett, Jr and wife Susan of Fulshear, TX; Michael Brett Hatchett and wife Debbie of Edmond, OK; Yvette Suzanne Cates and husband Randy of Winfield, KS; and Valerie Lynn Davis and husband Gerald of Drumright, OK, and 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several step and adopted children that she was Grammy to. She is also survived by two sisters, Susan Jane Trapp of Drumright, Ok and Sharron Yvonne Solomon and one niece Lezlie Jean (Kaiser) Payne of Anchorage Alaska.
