Elva Lucille (Elva Lu) Hasty passed at the age of 85 on August 21, 2023. She was born on March 16, 1938 in Alva, Oklahoma, to Guy Emerson and Audrey Elizabeth (Bainum) Kinzie. Elva Lu grew up in Alva, graduated Alva High School, and then moved on to graduate from Oklahoma City University.
Among her various jobs, Elva Lu worked at Kinzie Industries and the Alva Airport, tending the terminal and refueling airplanes. She would always have homemade sandwiches ready to sell to the pilots and passengers that flew in. She also enjoyed her time working as a teacher's aide for Mr. Lee Haley at Longfellow Elementary School and later on for Mrs. Janice Kohler in Ozark, Missouri, which resulted in her being their annual pen pal when she returned to Oklahoma – some of which still wrote to her to this day.
In the spring of 1961, Glen Hasty flew in to the Alva Airport to refuel his plane as he was flying cross country to Kansas City, Missouri. Little did she know that almost a year later she would marry him. Glen would often say "that was the day he met the most beautiful girl in the world." They married on June 10, 1962. To their union, in May of 1970, they welcomed their daughter Judy.
A dedicated partner and wife, Elva Lu assisted and supported Glen in his business ventures. This included traveling to Iowa in the summer for a few years to help with the helicopter crop dusting. They enjoyed being Wesley House sponsors at NWOSU, metal detecting and archery, just to name a few.
In 1989, Glen and Elva Lu left Alva to work for Holiday Retirement Corporation. They started out in Austin, Texas, and ended up with the role of traveling managers, which took them all over the United States. In 1999, after their granddaughter was born, they returned to Alva to be closer and became managers of the Homestead and from there they retired in 2008 and settled in Aline, in the house they had restored together.
Elva Lu enjoyed playing the piano and the cello and being with her grandchildren. She was often asked to play her cello at local functions or church services. When the grandkids were little, Elva Lu volunteered in their classrooms and loved to have the kids read to her.
Elva Lu's calling in life was living for the Lord and being a very devoted Christian. In 1972, Elva Lu and her sister Wanda traveled to Jerusalem and toured the Holy Land. Upon their return, she was asked to do presentations of their trip by a few of the local churches. She would write notes of encouragement to people all over. She had a knack of sending those notes at just the right time, when they were needed the most. There is no doubt that her personal ministry reached thousands of people. Elva Lu was a member of the Church of God in Alva. She was always kind, never a harsh word, and was always looking to help those that needed help, an encouraging word or just a Bible verse or two. She made it a priority that everyone knew about God and understood the love God has for us. "God's Assistant" would be a good description for Elva Lu and there is no doubt she had a special place in Heaven waiting on her.
Elva Lu was preceded in death by the love of her life, Glen H. Hasty, her parents Guy and Audrey Kinzie, brothers Lynn and Wayne Kinzie and her sister Wanda Kightlinger.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy and her husband, Kelly Porter, and her grandchildren Shelby and Paden Porter, along with numerous friends and family.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Elva Lu and Glen Hasty at a later date.
