Kathryn Louise Hassinger, 75, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully Monday, June 27, 2016. She was born September 5, 1940 in Clinton, Illinois, to Harry Spencer Macon and Starkey Louise (Hunt) Macon.
Kathryn grew up in Clinton, Illinois. She was a graduate of Clinton High School and attended Southern Illinois University. Kathryn met and married the love of her life, James Edward Hassinger on September 11, 1960, and together they enjoyed 45 years of marriage. She owned and operated a childcare center alongside her husband, who preceded her in death. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, from Oklahoma to Illinois to Florida. She loved to read, play golf, go to dinner with her friends, travel, and she treasured the many animals they had over the years. She loved the children and families they cared for, who remain part of our lives. Kathryn was a member of First Christian Church in Norman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Kathryn leaves cherished memories with her six children: Lyn and Dyke Buerkett, Jim Hassinger, Susan and Jamie Powell, Kristen and Keith Penn, Holly and Jon McVay and Stacy and Brian Berglan. She is also survived by her sister Susan Macon, and her brother James and wife Lisa Polston. Grandchildren, all of whom she adored: Quinn, Haley and Zach and Faith Buerkett, Lauren Hassinger, Taylor and Rory Sullivan, Darcey and Cameron Bruehl, Tyler and Conner McVay, Abby, Emma, and Cole Berglan. Two Great-Granddaughters Paisley Bruehl and Savannah Sullivan, as well as many nieces, nephews, countless friends, and the many children and parents that became our extended family.
Memorial Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m, Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the CrossPointe Church, 2601 24th Ave. SE, in Norman. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 at CrossPointe Church
