Sharon Raye Harwell, of Meeker, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at home, surrounded by family. Sharon was born on August 2, 1947 in Prague, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Raymond Wright and Elfrieda (Fipps) Case. Sharon grew up in the Prague and Paden area. Sharon was very active in high school, excelling on the basketball court for the Prague High School basketball team. Sharon was a proud graduate of Prague High School, with the class of 1965.
While in the first grade, Sharon met Richard Lee Harwell, the two were classmates and quickly became friends. The two declared in the second grade that they would someday be married. Richard and Sharon were high school sweethearts, dating throughout high school. While Richard was away, serving his country, in Vietnam, he penned a letter to Sharon, declaring that the two would marry at his time of leave. In December of 1965, while on leave, Richard and Sharon were married and the two were happily married for the last 56 years.
Following high school, Sharon went to work for Farm Bureau Insurance in Oklahoma City, where she worked as a supervisor. Later on, she went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, where she started working at a district barn, then went to traffic coding, sign licensing and information technology.
Sharon was a loving and caring person. She always put others before her self. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. Sharon also loved to travel. She enjoyed going on cruises with her family, spending days at the beach and weekends at the lake. Everywhere she went, she was dressed up and looking her best. She had a loving impact on many and will be greatly missed.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wayne Case.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Richard Lee Harwell, of the home; one son, Craig Harwell and his wife, Amanda, of Prague; three grandchildren, Emily Harwell, of New York, Monica Harwell of Prague and Tanner Harwell of Prague; two sisters, Donna Davis of Prague and June Davidson of Pinehurst, North Carolina. She is also survived by a host of family and friends.
