Wilma Irene Harris age 92 of Norman, Oklahoma passed from this life Monday, June 24, 2024 at her home. She was born September 28, 1931 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Walter F. Sweet and Viola (Ripple) Sweet.
Wilma grew up in northwestern Oklahoma and attended school in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated in 1949. As a youth she enjoyed working on the farm with her father and loved fishing with her mother. She worked as a nanny while she earned an Associates Degree from Draughon’s Business School. She went on to work as an administrative clerk for the General Service Administration.
She married Fred Canary in 1951 in Woodward, Oklahoma, and they settled in Oklahoma City. During their time in Oklahoma City, she had her two children, David and Rita, and she loved being a mother to them. Wilma enjoyed traveling with family. She later married Clovis Harris in 1982 in Oklahoma City. Together they enjoyed hiking, gardening, and being outdoors.
Wilma was a long time active member of Sharon Baptist Church. She loved to study God’s Word, sing his praises, always prayed for her family and friends or whoever needed it, and attended Women’s Bible Study. She enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center, getting her weekly haircut, and attending Sunday School. She loved to get together with family, including bowling, dancing, playing games, and attending all sporting events of her grands and great grands.
She is preceded in death by, her parents; her husbands, Fred Canary and Clovis Harris; and her daughter, Rita Canary.
Survivors include; her son David Canary and wife Wayneta, of Norman, OK; her grandchildren, Timothy Ford of Oklahoma City, OK, Christy Landsberger of Norman, OK, Misty Canary of Norman, OK, Mark and Yvette Canary of Honolulu, HI; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Noah and wife Kailin, Aubrei and husband Brandon, Caeden and wife Hannah, Chloe, Major and Braxton; great-great grandchildren, Oliver, Carter, and Piper; sister, Joyce Sever and husband Harry of Woodward, OK, and numerous other family members and friends.
Memorial Service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Sharon Baptist Church with Reverend Clint Dawkins officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
