Eddie, a long-time resident of Durant, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family and closest friends. He was born on May 17, 1935 in Chockie, OK to Beulah Shipman Harris and John Roy Harris. Eddie grew up in Calera, OK and graduated from Calera High School.
A long-time businessman, Eddie opened and ran Eddie’s Mobile Homes in Calera, OK and Eddie’s Mini-Storages in Durant, OK. However, Eddie would call his biggest achievement and success his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Charlene Polson Harris and his children Johnny and Melody. Eddie and Charlene were married soon after high school and began their sixty-two years together.
Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in law and 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his Children, Johnny Harris and wife Lisa of Durant, and daughter Melody Downs and husband Randy of Durant. 3 grandsons, Cory Harris, Casey Harris and Taylor Downs, all of Durant and 1 granddaughter, Heather Marcum and husband Taylor of Durant. 5 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Guardian Hospice who made this process significantly easier for Eddie and his family.
A memorial service to celebrate Eddie will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Chapel in Durant with Anthony Williams and Leon Veazey officiating.
