Roy Harris

March 16, 1917 ~ 2003

Services: Fri., Dec. 12, 11 a.m.

Roy Harris is was born on March 16, 1917, in Idabelle, OK, to Daniel and Maudie Harris. He later moved to Los Angeles, CA, before moving to Bakersfield, CA. He worked in the Service Industry for many years for Los Angeles County and for a short time in Bakersfield before retiring.

He united with the St. Emmanuel Baptist Church in 1991 under Pastor R. L. Bonner where in 1994 he was ordained as a Deacon and served faithfully until his health failed. He spent his last months attending church services at St. Emmanuel as his health would allow and enjoying his daily outside to Elder Life where he was active in many of the programs offered there. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Maudie Harris; and sister Callie V. Harris. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 24 years Michelle Harris; three sons, Roy Harris, Jr., of Yuba City, CA, Jason Harris, Robert Harris, both of Bakersfield; one brother, Leroy Harris, of Los Angeles; one special granddaughter who cared for him during his illness, Tunisia Harris of Bakersfield; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends in Oklahoma and Bakersfield.
