Dena Delores Harris, 70 of Edmond passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007 at her home. She was born Oct. 5, 1936 in McAlester, Okla. to the late Deno Augustus and Victoria Helen Barney Troiani.
She graduated from McAlester High School in 1954. On Nov. 24, 1956 she married Bill B. Harris in McAlester. Dena attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. In 1964, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a B.S. degree in Nursing.
They moved to Woodward in 1965 and the following year she began working for the Woodward Health Department. Dena worked as a nurse practitioner for seven counties from 1976 until 1979. She spent the next five years serving as the school nurse for Woodward Public Schools. In 1984, they moved to Edmond where she worked three years for Planned Parenthood.
Dena retired from University Health Science Center in 1995 after seven years of service. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Sooner Model A Club, member of various professional nursing organizations. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kecia Stevens on Jan. 31, 2007.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bill Harris of the horne; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Garvin Stevens of Olive, Okla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Lynda Harris of Woodward, Okla., John and Carol Harris of Little Rock; 6 grandchildren, Kyndal Stevens, Grace Harris, Tucker Harris, Seth Harris, Shane Eller Sabrina Krueger; mother-in-law, Wanda Cross of McAlester; brother and sister-in-law, Lee Ramon and Fran Troiani of Oklahoma City; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007 at Smith & Kernke Funeral Horne, 14624 N. May, Oklahoma City. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond with Father John Metzsinger officiating.
Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville, Arkansas at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007. Pallbearers are Torn Cronin, Bob Aldridge, Bert Rosson, Charles Wolfe, John Kissenger, Phil Rea, John Bartrug and Joe Gilliland. The family suggests memorials be made to Kecia DeAnn Stevens Memorial Endowment Fund c/o University of Central Oklahoma, 100 N. University Drive, Box 177, Edmond, OK 73034.
