Carl Loyd Harris, 84, resident of Copan, passed away on Sunday morning Sept. 20th 2015 at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, from injuries sustained in a fall.
Carl was born on July 10, 1931 in Collinsville, Oklahoma to the former Edith L. Booker and Robert Carl Harris. Carl moved with his mother and brother Robert to Connecticut in the early 1940's. He was married in the early 1950's to the former Olga Gurliacci, and they had three children together. In 1976 he married the former Kathryn June Hileman of Anna Illinois, and they lived in Ledyard Connecticut. Carl retired from General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton Connecticut in 1991, where he was a heavy machinery repair mechanic. He was also retired from the Connecticut National Guard with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the United States Army. Upon His retirement in 1991, Carl and Katie proudly moved back to Oklahoma to the Copan area where he enjoyed working his 15 acres and spending time with his brother Floyd and fishing with his buddy Bobby Codding.
Carl leaves behind his beloved wife of 39 years, Katie, his two brothers Floyd Jack of Dewey, Oklahoma and John B. Wells of Bacliff, Texas, his daughter and namesake Carla Harris and her partner Peter Gasperini of Vinalhaven, Maine, a daughter Toni Tansey and husband Steve of Groton, Connecticut, son-in-law Philip King of Niantic Connecticut, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; a beloved sister-in law Ida Gurliacci Taliercio of Groton, CT.; dear friends Bobby Codding and his daughter Patti and her husband Larry Underhill of Copan, and many pals at the Liars Table at the Copan Truck Stop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a beloved daughter Patricia Ann Harris King of Niantic, Ct. in 2006, and a brother Robert Harris of Norwalk, CT.
His ashes will be spread during a brief celebration of Life and Memorial service for friends and family at the Washington Cove Landing on Copan Lake at 2:00 P.M. on Friday September 25, 2015, a favorite fishing site for Carl and his friend Bobby Codding.
Full Military Honors will be presented at the Memorial Service by the members of the Military Honor Guard of Bartlesville American Legion Post #105.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
