Bob Harlan, age 79 of Purcell, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013. Bobby Joe Harlan was born January 15, 1934 in Byars, OK, 1 of 6 children born to David and Myrtle Harlan.
Bob spent his early childhood in Byars where he began school. His family later moved to Purcell where he graduated from Purcell High School in 1953. While in school, Bob was a standout athlete and especially in basketball and he later attended Cameron University on a basketball scholarship.
Bob married his best friend and first love; a young lady from Lexington named Jean Taylor. They made their home in Purcell where they raised 2 children, daughter Terri and son, David.
He began a career working for the railroad and worked in many capacities for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp until his retirement. Bob was hard worker and great provider for his family. He was a wonderful husband and father, grandfather, brother and a good friend. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by: His parents, David and Myrtle Harlan; His sister, Voncile Allen; 3 brother-in-laws, Babe Cunningham, Vernis Allen and O.J. Pritchett and 2 nephews, Joe Cunningham and Ronnie Pritchett.
Bob leaves behind: His wife, Jean, of the home; Son, David Harlan of Purcell; Daughter, Terri Sizemore and husband Gary of Tulsa; Grandson, Aaron Sizemore and wife Brittany of Dallas, TX; 4 sisters, Phylis Pritchett of Purcell, Peggy Cunningham of Purcell, Patsy Merrell and husband W.T. of Purcell and Linda Marsh and husband Dale of Duncan; Several nieces and nephews and many good friends.
A Private Family Memorial is planned for a later date.
