Ruth Isabel Linn Hansen, age 94, of Norman passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at The Gardens at Rivermont. She was born March 22, 1918 in Atlantic, Iowa to Henry Scott and Margaret (Gittins) Linn. Ruth was united in marriage in Atlantic, Iowa on June 19, 1949 to Robert J. Hansen.
Ruth graduated from high school in Atlantic, Iowa. She then graduated from Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa and went on to receive her master's degree in English and speech from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She taught English and Speech in Iowa Public Schools for thirty-five years.
Mrs. Hansen moved to Norman in 1976 and was a partner with her husband, cousin Mary Louise and friend Ellen Mohr, in ownership of Karmelkorn Shoppe franchises at Sooner Mall in Norman, Mountainview Mall in Ardmore, Oakwood Mall in Enid and Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa.
Ruth was a member of the First Methodist Church in Atlantic. She was active in Rainbow Girls Organization, elected to travel the state of Iowa as its representative for one year after her high school graduation. She is still a member of PEO in Norman.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob on August 8, 2010; her infant sister; and two cousins Mary Louise Pine Petznick and Leon Pine. She is survived by two nieces, Christine Kidd of Oregon and Mary Hartmann of Florida; nephew, Robert Nelson of Arizona; several cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and her close friend, Ellen Mohr of Norman.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Stephen Lindsey, the Norman Regional staff, the Gardens of Rivermont, Heartland Hospice and Havenbrook Funeral Home for their care. Memorials may be made to Second Chance, 4500 24th Ave. NW, Norman, OK 73069.
Private funeral services will be held by the family. Arrangements for Ruth and her family were placed in the care of the Vice Family at Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
