John Hanna

Nov 15, 1946 ~ Oct 26, 2016

John Hanna, 69, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma passed away on October 26, 2016 at Jane Phillips Medical Center after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer.

John was born November 15, 1946 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Walter and Lucille (Burkhart) Hanna. John grew up in Bartlesville with his five brothers and sisters. He was a College High Wildcat, graduating in 1965.

John then enlisted in the Marine Corps and went on to fight bravely in the Vietnam War as a helicopter gunner and crew chief, serving two tours of duty with the HMM-163 Ridge Runners and HMM-361 Hellcats. After flying in five major missions and being shot down on three different occasions, John earned twenty-one different air medals and several other honors including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.

He was then honorably discharged and returned home in 1970, when he married Lorri (Graham) Hanna of Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1982. They had two children, Michael Hanna and Jessica (Hanna) Kayser.

John was employed by Reda Pump beginning in 1970, working in the shipping as well as the electrical engineering departments as a technician and manager until his retirement in 2004.

He had two beautiful grandchildren, Evie and Grant Kayser, who he loved and cherished dearly.

John was an active member at Town and Country Christian Church in Bartlesville. He loved restoring old cars and always kept very busy with several projects. At Christmas time, John created a light show at his house set to music with over 20,000 different lights and animation. Children would come and watch the show and often asked if his house is where Santa Clause lived, which always gave him such joy. John will always be remembered for his humor, patriotism, Mr. fix-it attitude, bravery, and the love he had for his family. He will be greatly missed by many.

John is survived by his wife, Lorri Hanna, his daughter Jessica Kayser and her husband John Kayser, his son Michael Hanna and his wife Christina (Jones) Hanna, his two grandchildren, Evie and Grant Kayser, his brother Harry "JR" Mosier and his wife Patty, his sister Louise Moreland and her husband Vern, his brother-in-law Dale Hays and sister-in-law Marilyn Hanna as well as several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his mother and father, Walter and Lucille Hanna, his brother Earl Hanna and his wife Carlene, his sister Darlene Hays, his brother Jerry Hanna, and niece Tonya Mosier.

Services are on Friday, October 28th at Town and Country Christian Church at 11:00.

In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O Box 491, Dewey, OK 74029 or to the Salvation Army Forgotten Angels, 101 N Bucy, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
