Deward Eugene “Gene” Hancock, age 82, of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 in Earlsboro Oklahoma.
He was born September 24, 1941 in Cyril, Oklahoma to Oveal and Macky (Jameson) Hancock.
He graduated from Prague High School with the class of 1959.
Gene then moved to California and returned to Fairfax, Oklahoma before settling in Prague OK.
He married the love of his life Ruth Trautmiller on March 4, 1989 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Gene went on to Oklahoma State Technical school, to get his certificate in Diesel Mechanic. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Caterpillar in Oklahoma City for many years. He later started his own business Hancock's Diesel and Dozer Repair in Earlsboro. Along with his wife Ruth they owned and operated the Long Ears Restaurant in Earlsboro.
Gene loved fishing, leatherworking, and traveling with the Kickapoo Sams RV Club. He also built his home from the ground up.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oveal and Macky Hancock; sons, Deward Eugene Hancock Jr. and Jay Wakefield; brother, George Hancock; sisters, Shirley Stumbaugh and Janice Vaughn.
Gene is survived by his wife Ruth Hancock of Earlsboro, OK; daughter, Terri Lynn Cleghorn, Newcastle, OK; and son, Guy and Lisa Wakefield of Bethany, OK; and other extended family and friends..
Per Gene’s wishes no formal services will be held. Cremation arrangements by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. There will be no viewing.
