Barney Fred Hancock, also known as Butch by many, went to be with the Lord Wednesday the 27th, 2021 at the age of 75 at his residence in Stroud, Oklahoma. Barney was born in Los Angeles, California on May 9th, 1946, to Barney Frederick and Mary Hancock. Right after graduating high school, he went to serve his country in Vietnam with the air force as a dog handler and security guard. He served alongside his twin brother Bobbie who he was exceptionally close to. Barney was a man of many trades, working 10 years for the Department of Transportation of California, he was an electrician for a short time, he assisted with plumbing and drove a truck for the oil field for many years. He lived a life to help others, during the time he lived in Stroud he earned the nickname “drive by mower” for his perpetual love for yardwork, as he would stop by anyone’s yard that needed mowed without a word to be said. He had a passion for watching all college sports, especially football. Barney was also quite the cook and loved having family gatherings and cooking for anyone that stopped by.
He was an elder with the New Covenant Church in Stroud where he was ordained and attended services faithfully for 24 years, he assisted with the AA and NA classes, and helped with numerous projects throughout the church. He lived his life in a way that was a guide by his love for the lord.
Barney was survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Hancock, his son Barney David “Butch” Hancock and his wife April and their three children Seth, Troy David, and Allison, his daughter Carrie and her husband Gary Powers and their children Ryan, Ashley, Paige, and Logan, his son Nelson Marker and wife Dionna and their sons Trey and Seth and his wife Brittany, great grandson Jeffrey, his daughter Kelli Marker and her children Chassary and husband Tony Goodmon, their daughter Ryleigh Goodmon, Jonathon and his wife Kayle, their children Paizlee, Chasslynn, Hallee, Emmaline, Caswell, and Mason, Caitlyn Hodge her children Ava and Asher. His sister-in-law Jan Driskle, and many other family and friends.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents Barney and Mary Hancock, two brothers Bill Marshall and his twin brother Bobbie Hancock, his son in law Lee Gilliland, his beloved grandson Michael “Cole” Alcorn.
Butches family will host a memorial service at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
