David E. Hamm, 61, formerly of Boise, Idaho, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, following a lengthy battle with kidney disease. He was born on August 1, 1959, in Lima, Ohio, to Clarence E. Hamm and Ruth Stouder Hamm.
He married Lynnette Fanning on May 30, 1982, and they were married for 32 years. They had two sons: Caleb Nathanael Hamm and Seth David Hamm. Over the years, David worked for the Hertz Corporation, and later owned and operated a café in Oklahoma City. After relocating to Boise, he owned and operated a knife retail and sharpening business. David loved the great outdoors, which is what enticed him to relocate to Idaho. He relished hunting, fishing and camping with his sons in the mountains. Bacon chili for breakfast was a “specialty” during these camping trips. He attended Bethany Middle School and Bethany High Schools. He played trumpet in the BHS jazz band and was a 1978 graduate.
He was preceded in death by his son, Caleb in 2011, a devastating blow that he never recovered from. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ruth Hamm of Bethany.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Lynnette, Chicago; son, Seth, Norman; siblings Bonnie, Brenda and Sheryl, along with several nieces and nephews; long-time friends, Calvin Bateman and Johnny Pope, and his minister and special friend, Pastor William (Bill) Sillings.
Special thanks to all of the physicians, nurses and other health care providers who helped managed David’s care over the years. Heartfelt thanks to Pastor Bill who walked beside David during some of his darkest and most difficult days.
A private remembrance will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation in memory of David’s son Caleb Nathanael Hamm, https://wffoundation.org
