Doris Wright Haight, 94, of Norman, died Tuesday 18 November at the Cedar Crest Nursing Home.
Mrs. Haight was born in West Hartlepool, County Durham, England on August 12, 1920.
As a young woman during World War II, Mrs Haight worked days in the freight office for the London Northeastern Railway and nights at the local fire station to fulfill her compulsory wartime civil service obligation. During this period she met Russell K. Haight of Mount Kisco, NY, a soldier stationed in England with the Canadian Army. The couple married on June 26, 1943 after Mr. Haight had transferred to the U.S. Army.
They raised their family while traveling to military postings around the world including Germany, Panama, Bolivia, and stateside bases. Mr and Mrs Haight lived in Northern Virginia from the 1960's until their move to Oklahoma in the 1980's. While in Virginia Mrs. Haight was employed by Sears, Roebuck and Company in the fine jewelry department.
She was predeceased by her husband and is survived by two daughters, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
There will be no local services. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
