James Stephen Hagan Sr., 83, of Copan, Oklahoma, died May 4, 2021. He was born to Mary Lelia (Burkhead) Hagan and Melford Stephen Hagan on February 18, 1938 in Rural Hardin Co. Kentucky near Elizabethtown. His family moved to a farm near Glendale, Ky in 1941. He graduated from Glendale, Ky High School in 1956. James received a Basketball scholarship to attend Tennessee Tech University in 1956.
In 1960 he accepted a job with Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and was a member of the Phillips 66 Industrial Basketball Team for 4 years. In 1961 United States Dept. sponsored a goodwill tour for the Phillips 66 Basketball Team to visit several countries in the Mediterranean Sea area. The team played National teams and conducted clinics. Countries visited were Greece; Italy; Egypt; Cyprus; Jordan; Lebanon and Syria.
He married Delberta Ruth Moreland in St. John Before the Latin Gate Catholic Church in Bartlesville, Ok on September 12, 1964. He moved to Louisville, KY in 1964 as a Phillips Petroleum Company employee. He was transferred to Lexington, KY in 1969. In 1976 he resigned from Phillips Petroleum Company and returned to the Bartlesville, Ok area. He accepted a job with KOPCO, Inc., Caney, Ks. Retired from KOPCO in 2007. He has traveled the world, and then some. James loved Basketball, Lionel Trains, gardening, playing Bridge and His family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lelia (Burkhead) Hagan and Melford Stephen Hagan.
James is survived by his wife, Delberta Ruth (Moreland) Hagan, Son, James Steven Hagan and wife, Tina, daughter, Theresa Ann Eichinger and husband, Curtis, Son, Jeffrey Scott Hagan and wife, Jessika, daughter, Cynthia Ruth Hagan and Joe Exendine, 8 Grandkids: Trey Hagan and Ariole, Tim Hagan and wife, Heather, Samantha Hagan, Jerimyah Hagan, Tyeler Hagan, Avery Hagan, Cole Eichinger, Logan Eichinger, 2 Great Grand Daughters, McKenna Hagan, Rylee Hagan, 3 Brothers; Bob, Jw, Larry and 2 Sisters; Betty, Rose and many Nieces and Nephews.
Formal Visitation will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 4 pm to 6 pm at Stumpff Funeral Home.
Rosary will be at 10:30 am and Mass will be at 11:00 am at St. John Before the Latin Gate Church on Friday, May 7, 2021.
