Ulysses Grant Guthrie

September 23, 1882 ~ Apr 02, 1984

Wakita – Ulysses Grant Guthrie, 101, Wakita's oldest resident, died Monday in a Wakita health facility.

His funeral will be at 2 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of the McNeil Funeral Service in Wakita with Rev. Roger Stearnes officiating. Interment services pending, with burial to be in Denver, Colorado.

Guthrie was born in Junction City, Kansas, September 23, 1882, and came with his family to Wakita at the opening of the Cherokee Strip in 1893. He was a longtime resident of Wakita and of Denver.

Guthrie was a retired building contractor and had lived in Wakita the past 10 years.

He was a member of the Christian Church and a 50-year-plus member of the Wakita Masonic Lodge No. 150.

Guthrie is survived by 12 nieces and nephews including Margaret Wright and Howard Guthrie, both of Wakita, and Juanita Hastings, Alva.
