Richard E. Guthrie

???? ~ May 2006 | Age 95

Funeral for Richard E. Guthrie, 95, of Kiowa, Kansas, will be 10:30 AM Tuesday at Apostolic Christian Church, Kiowa. Jeff Bahr and Ron Allenbach will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Kiowa. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Kiowa. Visitation will be 2 to 5 PM today and 10 AM to 9 PM Monday at the funeral home with the family being present from 6 to 9 PM.

He was placed in the Wichita Children's Home at age 10. He went to live with Peter and Marie Farney the next year. He graduated from Kiowa high school in 1931 and became a farmer.

He married Florence Schock September 20, 1936 in Peoria, Illinois. He was a member of Apostolic Christian Church. He worked for Southwest Hatchery in Kiowa and began farming. During the winter months he worked for Meyer Construction Company. He farmed until age 72. He was a member of the Saltfork Craftsman Club and the Kiowa Historical Society.

Surviving are his wife, Florence; five daughters, Lois Allenbach of Kiowa, Geneva Sullivan of Morton, Illinois, Mary Weigele of Livonia, Michigan, and Ann Thenhaus and Susan Moriarty, both of Tucson, Arizona; a foster sister, Mildred Farney of Kiowa; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great – grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
