Dr. Sudhir Kumar Gupta

Dr. Sudhir Kumar Gupta
November 17, 1955 ~ June ??, 2025

Dr. Sudhir Kumar Gupta was born on November 17, 1955 in Delhi, India, the youngest of eight children and the only sibling in his family to study medicine.

He graduated from Maulana Azad Medical College in 1977. Two years later, he immigrated to America with his wife, Shikha Gupta, to complete his residency and then a fellowship in cardiology at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. In 1981, their first child, Prerna was born.

After finishing his fellowship, the family moved to Oklahoma in 1986, where he became the first cardiologist within a 40-mile radius of their hometown, Shawnee. One year later, he launched Shawnee Heart Center and their second child, Esha, was born, followed by their third child, Rijul, in 1992. Sudhir was a beloved member of the Shawnee community, caring for patients and saving lives for 38 years. He was on the board of directors at Unity Health, served as the Chief of Staff at SSM Health St. Anthony's Hospital-Shawnee and was one of the founders and a passionate board member of the Avedis Foundation. As a physician and community member, he will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to always putting the welfare of his patients over his own.

As a husband, father and friend, he will be remembered for his smile which was always bright with joy, his adventurous spirit, his boundless curiosity - he loved to learn and teach - his kindness and generosity, his love of golf and apple pie with vanilla ice cream, and his devotion to his wife and children, whom he cherished.

Sudhir is survived by his family who will miss him greatly: his wife, Shikha Gupta, his elder daughter, Prerna Gupta (husband: Parag Chordia), his younger daughter, Esha Gupta, his son, Rijul Gupta (wife: Hannah Fornero), his grandchildren, Shiv and Laksha Taal and his large extended family throughout India and the U.S.

A memorial service honoring Dr. Gupta will be held on Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at the OBU Recreation and Wellness Center, 500 W University Street, Shawnee, OK 74804. All who knew him are welcome.
